  The Ugly Truth About Ipswich
  
  Compiled here for the first time, many of the greatest performances of Ipswich music recorded between 1981 and 2011. Meticulously researched and assembled from thirty years of field recordings in the remote county town of Suffolk, in the East Anglian region of England.
  
  Before the invention of the phonograph and gramophone, the musical heritage of Ipswich is largely undocumented. With the advent of the electrical microphone and modern recording techniques, folklorists and ethnomusicologists travelling the region were able to preserve the indigenous music of Suffolk for the first time.
  
  The music they discovered had evolved in the cultural and geographical isolation of the rural Suffolk heartland. Genres long-extinct in mainstream Britain had been preserved in the absence of media pressure to reinvent Eighties synth-pop every five years. Collectors uncovered many surviving examples of punk rock, which had flourished and diversified in the town and its surrounding villages, noting stylistic divergence into new and exotic subgenres, including hardcore, skatepunk and grindcore.
  
  We are proud to present probably the only compilation album featuring both Nik Kershaw and Extreme Noise Terror.
  
  This is a glass-mastered double CD set with a 16-page booklet. Released in collaboration with Corndog Records. Due to licensing restrictions, this will not be repressed or made available on streaming services.
